Going to be interesting to see the new signings, especially the strikers and the new keeper. Wonder if we will have a new kit for tonight that hasnt been published on the website Rolling Eyes

Got to say i was quite impressed with the performance dont want to go too over the top though as the scunthorpe teamed looked extremely young.
Dootson looked solid in the first half but the keeper in the 2nd half didnt make a good impression shouldve saved the free-kick and didnt cover himself in glory for the 2nd goal.

thought pell and the whole back four looked solid in the 1st half maybe the left back looked a bit slow at times, but nice to see bloomer back playing in what we hope is a competent team this year, 2nd half also thought the defense looked pretty solid the black lad looked very good strong in the air and comfortable on the ground and the other centre back looked great in the air but made 1 mistake.

Midfield looked klass throught out the game, Bowey looked mint, never put a foot wrong all game, wayne phillips looked a bit of quality what we had been missing last season, nice to see durham back in the 2nd half, and shephard playign left back looked o.k, a guy playign centre mid who got the goal took it very well,

Strikers looked very good, especially in the 1st half, they worked together extremely well and what a header from 1 of them maybe armstrong but not sure, we looked threaenign up front throught out the game. and what a strike by Ivanov, top quality Very Happy

Pleased, but not getting too happy just yet, scunthorpe looked extremely young, and pretty poor, so lets wait to see them agaisnt some tougher opposition.

I think that the first half we played very well indeed, probably better than all of last season in so far as passing, keeping the ball and not only creating chances but actually putting them in the back of the net.

Second half we did ok, scored another 2 goals but the overall quality was just not the same, I know we had more trialists in the second half so maybe thats understandable.

From the showing last night, even though against a young (but full time) Scunthorpe squad, and if we can actually keep the better players, next season looks promising.

Stand out players for me: Bowey, Nowakawski, Armstrong, Roma and dootson.

Really looking forward to some real competition now.

Football: Harrogate Town 4 Scunthorpe United XI
    14 July 2010
HARROGATE Town got their pre-season off to a flying start, beating a Scunthorpe United XI 4-2 in heavy rain at Wetherby Road on Tuesday.
Boss Simon Weaver made sure new signings Craig Dootson, Dominic Roma, Richard Pell, Steve Bowey, Graeme Armstrong, Aiden Savory, and Liam Hardy all featured during the 90 minutes together with Adam Nowakowski, Matt Bloomer, Martin Foster, Liam Shepherd, Simon Harrison, Luke Durham, Jon Maloney and a number of trialists.

Town flew out of the blocks against their youthful visitors, Nowakowski putting them a goal up after just three minutes with a fine header from a free kick.

Striker Savory doubled their advantage in the 22nd minute with another header, courtesy of a fine cross in from Foster on the right wing.

But before then there were great scoring chances for central midfielder Bowey, who shaved the right post, centre forward Graeme Armstrong who just failed to get on the end of a ball begging to be tapped in from close range, and newly-signed Gateshead winger Wayne Phillips with a free kick 20 yards out.

Scunthorpe barely got a look-in during the first half, but steadily worked their way into the game in the second, as Weaver opted to shuffle his pack and make wholesale changes.

The changes quickly reaped goals for Town, former Garforth man Duncan Williams netting the third of the evening in the 55th minute, having picked Sam Comer's pocket, he embarked on a super mazy run before unleashing an unstoppable shot.

Comer enjoyed a bit of payback in the 70th minute, firing home a perfectly-weighted free kick from just outside the box, but Town increased their lead 14 minutes later through a stunning individual goal from Stephen Ivanov.

His left-footed 30-yard drive into the top corner was possibly the goal of the night, although Scunthorpe had the final say when Jamie Wooton outfoxed the defence and sub 'keeper Jordan Myers in the 87th minute.

Town welcome Gateshead to the CNG on Tuesday July 20 for their next pre-season encounter (7.30pm) .

    According to this:

Duncan Williams is trialing for a league one side?

I really hope we can keep the better players this season?

Couldn't agree more that we shouldn't get carried away after 1 result. I'm usually the optimistic one Smile but Scunny did send a young side who were outmuscled for most of the game.
Positives were the spine of the team that looked a definite improvement on last year - even though our keeper didn't have much to do in the 1st half he exudes confidence to his back 4.
We passed the ball about well and good movement from both midfield and front men - Bowey and Fozz worked well together. Looked solid in defence in the 1st half but both goals left me with a feeling of deja vu. Silly free kick given away on the edge of the area (for God's sake don't jump in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and lack of concentration for the second goal - we would have been punished further by a Blue Square North team, but am confident we will learn from these mistakes - competition for places will work wonders in this department!.
Good match work out though and should be interesting next Tuesday when we have more of a physical challenge.
    Onwards and upwards cheers
