Droylesden were outstanding - we will not play a better team in this division. Given that, it then becomes difficult when you lose 3 key players to injury 1 of them in the warm up.
If we could have made it to half time it would have been interesting as their fans were already getting impatient.
The goal lifted them and 2nd half we ran out of steam - interesting banter between Dave, Simon and 6 of their brain dead fans mid way through the second half.
At 2-0 we had a great chance to pull one back and we could have had Telford situation (ie. our confidence up and heads down with the oppsition) but their keeper made a good save and we struggled in the last 10 against a team with pace and skill.
Coffee at 50p was another positive!
Daft as it sounds there were some positives - still feel positive about Saturday and may do my bit for the team by backing Redditch to win - that usually works a treat!!!!!
I can agree that Drolysden were class last night and I think will walk the league by the time it comes to May. One of the best performances I've seen at this level, so strong all the way through the team.
However there are so many little things which we could have done better and we need to improve on.
For a start, why is everyone of our shirts look XL? Okay I no we are not the biggest of teams but the shirts are massive and way to big for even the biggest of players. Also why are they ALL long sleeved? There shoud be 3-4 long sleeves for those who want them but everyone else's should be short sleeved; the amount of time players spent pulling up sleeves because they wanted short sleeves is ridiculous. Although yes, a small point, looked amateurish with everyone with massive baggy shirts.
First 35 minutes we looked quite solid defensively, people were very committed throwing themselves as shots, but we had such little possession was worrying. Whenever we did get the ball, especially the full backs, there was just useless balls to long into channels no where near anyone. Maloney had nothing to work with and felt sorry for him. However gedmaloney, as I assume your a relative of John, this isnt a criticism, but after about 40 mintues he looked absolutely nackerd panting before halftime, and I think the bigger Broadbent should have come on for a run out.
I arrived late but understand we lost Dutton in the warmup and no Woodhouse which are too big losses. Where was Rory Coleman?
One big point, Sturdy is NOT a leftback. The amount of time he was beaten by the right winger became embarrassing, and the last half hour of the second half the right back just had so much room. His passing too was atrocious, even when he had time on the ball. Long useless balls, seemed incapable of passing the ball to feet.
Ollie Ryan looks so low on confidence at the moment, but from what I've seen in preseason and lastnight he is really sharp player, great first touch, but needs a goal. What happened to the striker that was supposed to be signing a couple days after Coleman arrived?
Sorry to say to be so negative, check my other posts and I try to be as positive as possible but last night was a real wake up call as where we need to get too. A look at all of our players and not only our players like Emms, Durham, McTiernan quite small but the whole build of the team is so slight. Even Simon's legs are really thin, and he's so slight a build.
All of you have made it this far, well done, but I dont apologise. I left it 24 hours to try and write something more constructive but we need to face some serious points before we spend most of the season in the bottom half of the table. You can see there is some very good quality in the players, enough to be in the top ten of this league, but we need a bigger stronger unit, as much as everyone loves to play pretty football on the deck, sometimes thats not enough. And even when you do, defending, fronting up, standing up to challenges needs players with a physical presence and we need more players like it.
Anyway like I said at the start, Droylsden are a class apart on this league so roll on Redditch.
