First ever FA Cup game to be called off because of persistent drizzle?

Re: Pitch Inspection!
There needs to be a plan B, perhaps use someone elses ground until our pitch settles...Before we know it we will have 10 games backing up and not able to gain any momentum.
This is probably as good as the pitch is going to get until the end of winter as we have just had a few nice days.

Re: Pitch Inspection!
BBC weather forecast: dull with a little light rain or drizzle. There really SHOULD be no problem. If we can't play tonight how are we going to get through the winter? I know its a new pitch and everything, but its getting a bit daft now. Fog may be a more serious problem it would seem.

The time was altered this morning to 13:00.
Before anyone has a go - this has been initiated by the FA NOT the club. We are awaiting the appointed representative to arrive.
The groundstaff have worked extremely hard to get the pitch ready since the Brackley match. The amount of water that the drainage and irrigation system has removed and pumped out has been phenomenal!
Fingers crossed!
Kind regards,
Peter

Re: Pitch Inspection!
The game is off looking at Hyde's forum.
If we can't get a game going on a reasonable Autumns day we got no hope of staging a home game until next March!

Re: Pitch Inspection!
Its an absolute joke, there has hardly been any rain over the past few days. If a dog pissed on the pitch, they would call it off lately, and the weather has not been that bad in my opinion.
I'm so angry. Sort it out Town, or our backlog of fixtures will be horrendous, and we will just go into reverse and have a repeat of last season.

I have to say, it's also a joke that the club appears to be blaming the FA by saying that its down to their judgement. Of course it is down to their judgement and in exercising that judgement, not for the first time a fixture has been called off as the pitch isn't fit to play on. This is the fault of the club not the FA. No-one doubts that the groundstaff will have done all they can to put things right, but there is something fundamentally wrong with the pitch and the drainage system.

Re: Pitch Inspection!
I really don't see how we can blame the club. We were all pleased at the investment to level the pitch, and make various other improvements at the club. We all know that this has been the worst summer ever to strip and seed a new pitch. (See the comments on another thread re the pitch at K'boro Celtic).
Apart from half the seed being washed away in June/July, the rainfall figures for Harrogate will show that the weather for the past three months has been the worst it could possibly be for the pitch. OK, so it's tough on everyone, with a backlog - but what else could be done?
Any one got any sensible ideas?

Re: Pitch Inspection!
Might take my ass to Guiseley tonight (playing BPA) since they have a pitch to play on. I set myself up to watch a good game of footy, may aswell watch a game as a neutral!
My idea would be to look at sharing another clubs pitch until it dries out, perhaps Railway's if it meets ground regulations (they do owe us afterall these players we send on loan).

Re: Pitch Inspection!
This is what the pitch looked like at 8am this morning
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Lots of work was being done in the far right hand corner of the ground - gravel, new drainage pipes
Looks like a structural problem even allowing for the newness of the pitch

Get real.........
This is a brand new pitch from the base upwards. Not just some grass seed that was sprinkled over a previously settled pitch. It took almost 2 years before Wembley's new pitch was sorted out, and they had a hell of a lot more money to throw at it. It is going to take some time. This is not a video game, where you hit re-set and everything is perfect.

To be quite honest, the average supporter couldn't care less how it was put together as long as its playable. My issue was that the club should take some responsibility, not blame the FA for calling off a gane when the surface isn't playable.
Maybe we should get a roof, might not cost much more than this state of the art drainage system by the sounds of things!

No where has it been insinuated that the club blamed the FA, what was being said was that the club had to wait for the representative from the FA to arrive and inspect the ground. The inspection could only take place when he arrived and not before.
Why is it the fault of the club and what would you do differently?
Kind regards,
Peter

Peter,
Could we look at ground share options in the very short term future?

That would be up to the board to discuss and agree upon.
I honestly have no idea.

Peter, I can only assume you've not taken my suggestion of installing a roof seriously.

Some protective covers for the worst affected areas? Several local cricket clubs would be happy to help including my own - winter loan!

I think we should get someone to blow a whole load of hot air all over it.
Any suggestions ?
