Q&A Meeting Summary Empty Q&A Meeting Summary

Post by gedmaloney Wed Aug 05, 2015 7:41 pm

Just a brief summary of last nights meeting attended by approximately 30 supporters.

Simon Weaver, Paul Clayton, Gazza and Beez were in the chair(s).

Simons summary of preseason was pretty much in line with that of the supporters in attendance - don't get carried away but there is a different feel to the atmosphere this season. Really good quality players but no prima donnas, no bad apple (singular), improved team spirit and a group of honest individuals who Simon is confident will give their all.

Simon explained how he had been misquoted in the Advertiser as being satisfied with a 10th place finish. Whilst not wishing to place undue pressure on the 1st team, Simon expressed confidence that we can compete with any team in this division, that we can finish among the best teams in the league, which seemed to translate to a top 6 target position.

This always has to be tied in with a little bit of luck on the injury front, a point reiterated by Clayts who stressed the importance of developing a long term partnership with Dominic Knowles that required the minimum of injuries.

Simon spent a little bit of time on tactics and formations, and Paul Clayton explained his early match technique of getting to know the opposition central defenders Laughing Laughing

Paul discussed how positive the whole squad is at the moment and both Simon and Paul made a point of recognising the importance of the level of vocal support the team is receiving both home and away - Jordan Ford confirmed that he had agreed a 12 month contract with Halls Menthol and Eucalyptus lozenges Laughing Laughing

On a slightly more downbeat note, Paul Beesley explained the wonderful world of football - return to his spiritual home at the CNG, which he was ecstatic with, then a devastating injury that threatened his football career. He is on the mend, but is still in a lot of pain. Everyone wished Beez all the very best:pale: pale

Gazza gave an update on his injury - he expects to be back in mid September.

Simon was asked about the challenges of keeping everyone happy, given we have arguably the strongest bench seen at the CNG in the last 5 years - he agreed it would be a challenge, but he would far rather have this challenge than a weak bench, and commented that this season any substitution made would be like for like quality-wise which was a great asset. Who'd be a left back with Joe Colbeck or Jack Emmett running at or round you for 90 minutes.

Simon commented on the prospect of a closer working relationship with Harrogate Railway which would ensure Town players stayed match fit and would also help Railway if they had injury problems.

Lots of other subjects covered including best/worst dressed player in the squad, biggest prankster and a whole host of other important topics.

Next Q&A will be in December.

Have a great season - Cum On Town:cheers: cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers

Thanks for the update, sounds like there is a good deal of confidence this year and there is a 'coming together' of the squad that we haven't seen under Simon's reign. The positive for me is that past mistakes have been recognised and are been discussed openly. As a supporter if I am able to understand decisions I am able to trust so I feel the transparency is important moving forward..Roll on the season, let's translate all this on the pitch and make this season happen.

All sounds very promising. It's tough start though, 4 games in 10 days.

Yes, thanks Ged. It really does feel good this season, everyone is on the same page it would seem. I truly believe we can win on Saturday, but as it gets nearer I am feeling a mixture of excitement and naked fear!

Don't you worry Paul it will be 11vs12 in that ground on Sat!! No doubts the stewards will be moaning that we are too loud again.
