Chairman Decides To Step Down

Harrogate Town AFC would like to announce with sadness that Bill Fotherby has stepped down as chairman.
Mr Fotherby, 80, has decided that after more than a decade in charge at Wetherby Road it was time to stand aside.
Speaking to the Harrogate Advertiser, he said “I decided the time was right to go, it was my decision,” he said.
“I’ve 12 great years in charge and achieved a lot in that time. It was the right decision to make, I felt it was time to move on.”
A further statement will be made at a later date.

Didn't see that coming

Surprise to me as well. It would be nice to see some kind of presentation made to Bill on the pitch just to acknowledge all he has done for the club. I guess he must feel both pleased with what he achieved here but also some disappointments: the new ground never happened, we never made it out of the Blue Square North, and the fan base at the moment isn't much different to when he took over, I suspect Harrogate is never going to be a 'football town'.
Does this mean that Irving Weaver will now become Chairman or will Howard Matthews step up?

No surprise to me I'm afraid. In my opinion, it was on the cards when Irvine Weaver effectively took control. Bill had no position other than as a figurehead.

I am however surprised by the timing.
