Centenary Celebrations Sunday 7th September Empty Centenary Celebrations Sunday 7th September

Post by gedmaloney Sat Aug 23, 2014 10:43 am

You may be aware that 2014 marks the Clubs Centenary Year - there will be an 8 page supplement in the Advertiser in 2 weeks time which takes you back through the momentous highlights of the last 100 years with features on players, managers, administrators and historic games all of which have had an impact on the Club - I hope you will find it interesting reading.

We are also planning to hold an event on Sunday 7th September which is FREE and everyone is welcome.

Our development side (u21s) will be playing against Bishop Auckland (the same fixture that was due to take place in 1914 before the KAISER decided to invade the Low Countries!!!) on Sunday 7th September with a 1.30pm kick off.

Prior to this (AT 12.30PM) there will be a parade of players going all the way back to the 1940s - I have invited all the old, and not so old, favourites and we expect to have a minimum of 30 ex players / managers  in attendance all of whom will then be treated to hospitality in the 1919 venue and then have the opportunity to meet up with old friends and chat with supporters.

PLEASE KEEP THIS FREE IN YOUR DIARIES

cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers

Formal invites have gone out to over 40 ex players, coaches and managers including the likes of Bill Fotherby, Neil Aspin, John Deacey, Paul Williamson, Ray Pike - just a small selection of people who have had a role in HTAFC over the last century.

We are still awaiting confirmation from the majority of these invites but have received confirmation already from Jamie Price, Alan White, Charles Hartley Jr, Grace Hartley, Dave Merris, Eddie Buck, Brian Askew, Alan Smith and Mark Fenton.

I will keep you updated with progress and hope we get a good turn out of fans on the day - just to confirm admission is FREE and all relevant details are covered in the 8 page pull out in todays Harrogate Advertiser.

Given the unenviable quest to come up with something positive on this forum Shocked  - Chib Chilaka returns to the CNG on Sunday 7th September cheers .

For interest to other forum members this was the chap who created history down at Torquay when Wembley was a mere 540 minutes away.

If anyone is requiring a little bit of positivity therapy, just stand alongside Chib on Sunday for a couple of minutes - it works a lot better than speding time on the forum Basketball  Basketball

nb. the above post has tinges of sarcasm in it sunny please don't take it too seriously affraid

Danny Holland - just love the guy and what a player - could easily have played league football if he wanted to.

Ged - any word on jim Wright? Refereed my 10th birthday party. Another great player and fantastic guy. They don't make them like they used to!

Agreed TS, some of the goals he scored were on another level. Can remember plenty of his goals off the top of my head.

    C'mon Danny, need a reply.

James Turley, Roy Hunter and Chris Bettney are other players that stick fondly in the memory, they were a class act.

Well done for all your efforts Ged. It'll be great if Danny Holland can come - I well remember his extravagant goal celebrations which fortunately for us occured quite frequently. What a player for us. Any chance of Robbie Whellans - one of the most inspirational players I have seen for Town?

Thought about being a little jocular but don't want to go getting people too excited Very Happy .

Mark Fenton and John Deacey have confirmed they will be attending the Centenary Celebrations on Sunday - now brings the ex players up to approximately 30 and am awaiting a call from Danny Holland then all the old favourites will be in attendance.

If anyone has contact details for anyone who played for Town, please forward to me via the forum.
