It seems early to be getting a bit despondant, but Tuesdays game seemed rather like a lot of matches last season. I really do think the next match against Boston is a bit of a 'crunch' encounter. Presumably this squad was asembled to at least challenge for the play offs, and we cannot afford (even at this stage) to be dropping off the pace: Telford, Alfreton, possibly Workington and Boston look very strong already. If we are going to be serious condenders for a top 5 place this season we need a) to be able to beat the better teams, particularly at home b) get a consistant run of victories going. At least Boston lost 2-1 midweek so they are not invincible.
Stalybridge on Monday tough, but they are inconsistent, and we DO have to win some away games this season.
On the plus side Armstrong does look like the 'new' Danny Holland: 4 goals in 4 games is an impressive strike rate. Seems worrying that the defence (which looked to have been improved considerably) is giving away poor goals, like last season. We clearly need Foster and Bowey back in midfield. Come Monday at 5.00 pm. two wins could put us near the top, two defeats near the bottom, so these are massive games already.
