    Defensive shakeup

Post by Top Cat on Fri Jan 26, 2018 7:33 pm

Fair bit of movement in our back line last couple of days, Fallowfield out for at very least a month, our back up RB Vann shipped out on loan for a month he’s had his chances to stake a claim for a regular spot but hasn’t taken it imo, O’Hanlon released and signed by Darlo, shame for Ben just never really worked out was decent on the ball but just lacked that physical side still looked like a academy player, and Middleton returned from Boston where by all accounts he’s been outstanding, he never really got going at the start of the season but hopefully he cannot.

That leaves us with Middleton Kennedy Burrell Parker Swain and Kitching, what’s everyone’s preferred back 4 for the next month or so, I’d have Burrell at RB Kennedy and Middleton at CB and Parker at LB, I’m a big fan of swain but after he seemed to freeze and be very panicky away at Salford Parker gets the nod from me, not over sure why we’ve signed the lad from Leeds I’m not a believer in bringing in academy players in key roles like centre back or centre forward they always seem weak and get bullied by experienced players in our division the lad King from Bradford last season played 1 half for us against darlo I think got pulled from pillar to post got taken off never to be seen in a town shirt again and I’ve lost count of academy forwards we’ve signed over the last few seasons who have on the whole been hopeless at our standard with the exception of Jerry Yates.

Did not know that O'Hanlon had left, thought he was a decent player but as you say lacked the physical side which is needed in this league unless you are really outstanding.  Fallowfield is a very good full back great at getting forward, I think he has been played for too long with an injury which he never seems to fully recover from.
I think I probably agree with your back four of Burrell, Middleton, Kennedy and Parker.  Burrell has the pace for an attacking full back.
Agree with your thoughts on the young players coming in on loan, they mostly warm the bench, I cannot understand why their clubs let them go on loan if they don't get regular playing time.
Kitching looked half decent to me and could be useful from the bench.
