What a game Belshaw had with some outstanding vital saves in the 2nd half. After starting the game with 2 early goals and looking very comfortable we ended up hanging on. We played most of the 2nd half with 10 men after Leesley was harshly sent off for 2 minor offences.
What is becoming increasingly worrying is how uncomfortable we are at the back defending set pieces especially today against a very tall side. We now have a rest for 2 weeks in preparation for a tough game at spennymoor hopefully with our injured players getting ever nearer to fitness.

Yep, that was some game yesterday. From a great start, to one where all x10 players had to scrap for there lives after Joe was disgracefully sent off by an official who was out of his depth. Belshaw proved once more why he is regarded as the best keeper in the Leauge...simply outstanding. I have to give credit to all for there ‘never say die’ attitude during the 40+ minutes they had to endure in the 2nd half. It goes without saying, being top of the League helped but it again confirms, Simon + his backroom staff have a squad who have that fighting quality as well as being ‘hungry’ which he’s mentioned in quite a few of his interviews. Brilliant result lads, enjoy your break, and get prepared for another tough looking encounter in x2 weeks up Spennymore.

I agree with Garage and Ozzi above and am not confident about keeping Spennymoor out if we put on yesterday's defensive showing.
But i must add the question: how long should we persist with the on loan strikers who, in terms of chances/goals are not producing the goods for us? Surely Thewliss would, most likely, have made more of the striker chances provided yesterday.

Yep, I have to agree with you fulhamphoenix. If we have serious ambitions of going up, I assume that's what we are striving so hard for, then we MUST, I stress MUST bring in an experienced Center forward to cover for Ainges absence. If Si Ainge hadn't got injured when he did, himself and Jordan were as good a strike partenership in the Leauge. Id put money down and say we,d now probably be at least x6 points clear, if not more. I am not stupid and accept these young strikers need a chance toprogress, but not one has been dominant, or anywhere near. Just look at Burdett, he was never going to secure regular games. The lad who started yesterday looks a good prospect,he certainly put himself about, would of been nice for him to score. Time will tell, but I stick tomy guns saying, we need an experienced target man to lead the line. Not easy to find, but surely there must be someone out there whos not getting in for one reason or another?

Experienced target man...proven goalscorer...available as a short term measure. Sorry for mentioning Graeme Armstrong yet again but he would fit the bill in my opinion, if only until Ainge gets back (and the sooner the better).

I’m just guessing, but one of the reasons we’ve seemed to have signed young lads on loan up front is because they are available from full time professional clubs where they can come to us and carry on as they were, a stumbling block in perhaps trying to bring someone like Armstrong on a 1-2 month loan is Will Armstrong be able to get time off from his supplementary job to train with us full time for the duration of his loan as we now train everyday during the day instead of like other part time clubs Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

There will be a temptation to bring Ainge back before he has fully recovered and become fully fit which we should resist. Many a club has at all levels has done this with a key player and it has backfired.

Did any NLP readers notice the leading Non League goalscorers list yesterday? Top of the pile a certain Liam Hardy! 18 goals no less for Buxton. By the way Walshaw has 17.  Is it really impossible to try and get Hardy back from Buxton? OK he did not 'do the business' before for Town, but a) he suffered a bad injury and b) he is older and more experienced now.

Hardy would surely welcome the chance to go full time, and a modest transfer fee to Buxton might be sufficient.  He plainly has an eye for goal, as they say, and that is what we desperately need. I'd love to see my hero Graeme Armstrong back, but would he want to go full time at this stage in his career. I havn't seen enough of Nelson to really comment, but I agree with the bulk of the comments above. This really COULD be our year to make it out of the National North (we will getting a long service medal soon), but we can't just rely on it just happening, we have to pro-active. And don't forget when Ainge comes back it may take him a few weeks to get back to the way he was before the injury. I'm sure Irving has given Simon a budget, but, come on, money is not a problem at our club.
