Is this the first sign of next years full time squad?

I hope so Townfan, he looks like real quality! Played (briefly) for Sunderland first team: OK, one sub appearance, captained their under 21 team, and, very interestingly, as late as March this year was being heavily tipped to join Bradford City! Quite surprising that he dropped down to our level. But he must surely (I would have thought) be being lined up for next season. Still young as well, so very exciting potential there.

Just to add that he scored 11 goals in 26 appearances for the Pilgrims, about the same ratio as JP. We really need a goal scoring midfielder, and he could be it.

Sorry Liam, you've signed the contract, I'm afraid you are stuck with us!

So pleased we have signed Liam. I hope it's an indication that we might have a good balance of youth and experience in the squad. Simon seems reluctant to give the perseverance needed to bring the younger players on within the first team (Or perhaps he is just not able to - I don't know.) But Fallowfield's gone, Worral's gone, Day's gone and Cadman went and came back, but hasn't featured even though he's done well when he has played. Now we have Thirlwell as his assistant maybe he has the skills and the commitment to manage and coach the younger players to make them strong first team regulars contenders, rather than cheap, temporary stand ins when there are a lot of injuries.

To be fair, it's taken Emmett a couple of seasons to get to grips with the step up. Think Town have down right in getting game time for day and Cadman elsewhere. Hopefully they will make it but remember the monstering jack got off Halifax this season. Poor sod pretty much crawled out of the ground after the match

You're probably right Surplus. I suppose my expectations are too naive or just too simplistic. I assumed (wrongly) that if a young player was deemed good enough to sign, that the we might then take on the responsibility of their progress, rather than passing them on to another club to do that job for us. It isn't as though we have loads of youngsters. I am obviously incorrect in my thinking and I'll accept that, but still,, I can't help feeling a bit disappointed.
