6 /3 and I miss it
Whoever said life is unfair aint kidding. i hardly ever miss a home game, have a 2 day mini break in Paris, and miss a classic. Paris is great but I,d rather have been at the CNG Go on tell me how good it was rub it in.

Re: 6 /3 and I miss it
Initial line up was a surprise with Ainge playing off JP. We conceded in comedy fashion with Platt and Crook standing there 3ft apart discussing the round object when an alfreton player came in a nicked it into the goal. After that it turned into the Ainge show with big lad monstering their defence and playing some good linkup play. They ended up putting 2 players on him at all set pieces. Played some very good football but conceded 3 which was the only small cloud. Good game and good tactics from SW although hard to rate us. Onwards and upwards. Bring on BPA!

Re: 6 /3 and I miss it
Paul, we were slightly better today but don't go overboard. Any of the top 4 or 5 would have beaten us by 3 or 4 today. They would not have conceded the goals that Alfreton did and we were awful at the back.
But, having said that, it is a step forward from recent performances.

Agreed Townfan- Alfreton were very poor so don't get carried away- Ainge first 2 goals he would have scored from c/half- Still cannot believe Crooks still got no better at making decisions- what a stupid goal to give away

Agree garage and drifter. Thirlwell would seem a natural fit and is well respected at all levels within the club.

Bang average? Gifted them 2 goals and let them have a head start and still smashed them apart. Their defenders will need counselling after the mauling that Ainge gave them. Still think we can step it up a few gears though!

At last we have a forward/centre back in Ainge who can cause real havoc.Really think that's been our problem all year, a defenders nightmare to mark.
Old school yes... but a must in today's game.

Re: 6 /3 and I miss it
Ainge certainly highlighted what we need upfront. How he'd get on against top of the table opposition is a moot point but he showed real class today. Some of his deft touches and passing was second to none. Why don't you pop over to the Halifax forum where they are bigging him up and bemoaning their manager.

Good win let's enjoy it, but also let's not get carried away still a lot to work on, can't defend like that against teams in and around us pushing for the playoffs, another howler by crooky when will he learn?

Awful club, always have been. Law hates us with a passion and their directors didn't even bother to turn up for the pre-match meal. Apparently at the pub down the road until one of their blokes told them to get themselves up here.
Rather petty IMHO.

Re: 6 /3 and I miss it
Bullshit TF, me and a pal and another set of town fans were welcomed brilliantly by a couple of their directors in their club bar the last two seasons. They dont hide away in the club exec area, embarrassed by their own inability and arrogance. A few pints bought by them and some good football chat. Far better treated than by our own clubs lot.
If you spoke to a few clubs directors at away games....you learn a bit about outside opinions about town... and having chatted yesterday to them when they were in the 1919. It's good to talk. You learn a lot. Anyway that's some bs dispelled.
I would be more worried by the word SUSTAINABLE.

Ainge's performance yesterday reminded me of a certain Mark Hume and his one season playing CF/CB for Town under Neil Aspin.

Hume - fearless, hero.
News from elsewhere of 'old boys' - Walshaw also scored 4 yesterday and Brayson got his 29th goal of the season.

Re: 6 /3 and I miss it
For me the 2 most significantly positive factors out of today's game (can't include winning - as that had to happen sooner or later at home against a bottom 8 club), no .....
1) a striker in attacking position one minute then helping out meaningfully/or manfully in defence the next minute - we haven't seen much of that from our strikers this season
2) off-field, the attendance of 735 - must have been 700 Harrogate fans - previous seasons after such a dismal run we'd have done well to get 500 Harrogate fans. So off-field things are coming together, we just need the formula to get our on field antics to match .... If only!

Re: 6 /3 and I miss it
Attendance figures seriously need looking at, just by the look on Saturday if say there was only just about 500 there, but official figure was 730ish, are the club trying to tell us there was only 350 more people there on Boxing Day(1055) compared to Saturday?

Think it is more likely the crowd for Stockport was declared incorrectly.
I understand that Saxon Security counted the Stockport fans at c.300. Think they need to go back to school....

Re: 6 /3 and I miss it
Hi, don't worry about missing a 6:3, I remember missing Town winning 8:1, now here my memory is very hazy against Winsford Town maybe......It was our first home game of the season, I choose to go to Donnington Monsters of Rock festivals instead....lol
So that will date it maybe middle to late eighties, sure one of you guys will remember, Happy Days....
I'm sure my old man missed a similar blockbuster score in and around that same period as well, will ask him next time I see him.......
