Alfreton away! Come on lads
Professional and clinical performance today please. No silly bookings, no injuries, clean sheet and a goal fest for us would tick all the boxes!

Re: Alfreton away! Come on lads
Alfreton Town 1 Harrogate 0. First defeat of the season. Officially our new bogey team.....
On the good side, Salford got beat 1-0 by Kidderminster, but on the bad side, Fylde beat FCUM 3-2.
We are in 3rd place in the table. Identical record to Salford. Both on 21 pts. Fylde 3 clear on 24 pts.

Need to try and keep close to fylde. Real shame about today but bound to come sooner or later. Need to bounce back against Stalybridge.

Re: Alfreton away! Come on lads
Agree fully. We have to keep close to them if we are to have a realistic chance of at least the playoffs, but they will take some stopping. If we can get positive results against the likes of Fylde, Salford, Darlo and teams around us, we will be right up there in the mix at the business end of the season.
Considering we are nearly a quarter through the season, we are doing really well and the squad should be very proud of what they have achieved thus far.
If you'd have told me we'd only be 3 points off the top after 10 games, i'd have bitten your hand off.
With Fylde, all it will take is for Danny Rowe to get injured and they will struggle. Bohan Dixon and Brendan won't help them, and now that the Salford team have been beat, let's see if their management team can get them to bounce back. We've all watched the documentary so we know how they respond to negative results.
Onwards and Upwards. C'mon town!!!!

Re: Alfreton away! Come on lads
This was a very poor performance today. We had no ideas how to score against a team shipping goals. We must be the only team not to score against them. We did hit the bar and post in 2nd half but it was truly awfull and painfull to watch. Even our choir did not perform to its usual noise level and were subdued. Congratulations to the Alfreton groundsman who has produced a pitch to be proud of.

Nicky Law will be over the moon, he hates Town and the Weavers with a passion. Manages to get his side wound up for games against us every time. Their chairman must wonder why he cannot do it against other teams. Great pitch but the place is still a graveyard for us.

Re: Alfreton away! Come on lads
I'd imagine after shipping that number of goals that Law has really worked on not conceeding, but we need to learn how to undo teams and get back on it against Stalybridge. Been a bit concerned about the service into JP for a while now but we need to lose the flakiness and get grinding out results. Playoffs will be a success this season and hopefully we don't go on a long indifferent spell where we lose our way. How did the defence do?

It's a tough time for us as think it's unbalancing defence but no other options. Tough games coming up. Hopefully have Parker back sooner rather than later!

Re: Alfreton away! Come on lads
My reality says we were inferior today to a team which will probably finish mid-table. Out of our 10, 8 have been against opponents lower than Alfreton in the league!
So, on current form we deserve no better than mid table. Defence was pretty solid (except for failing to see glaring right side winger screaming for the ball, got it unchallenged and scored!).
Attack had little idea - was there a plan re how they might score a goal ? Knowles (OK just back from injury) didn't seem to be playing to a known plan. Robertson looks like a cart horse when he has to make his own space ( may be different if he's given the ball in 4 sq metres of space). The rest of the forwards play didn't fit in any better.Having said that, I have to acknowledge that we did hit the woodwork twice ! But still didn't deserve the spoils.
Ok, it's football - or any other sport for that matter - and things can change in 2-3 weeks, but from where I'm looking now, they won't and we're not in the play-offs on this form.

Truth be told, we really are in a false position...League wise If we really are to kick on, lets sign a recognized left back (Parker will be out weeks)..Put Turner back to Right back .And get a real leader back in to the team .AKA.. Ellis...Simples

Re: Alfreton away! Come on lads
We need a stronger presence up front. Pittman even though he's got some goals is non existant during normal play. Don't think he even got a header yesterday and that's one of his better points. I agree we are in a truly false position in the league because we've played the struggling sides apart from a very good performance at Halifax who will be up there next April. Chibs confidence has gone possibly because of the way he's been ignored yet again by the management just like before. Why did they get him back again just to sit on the bench? He's a far bigger threat to opponents than Pittman. Robertson looked good in the friendlies but looks so out-of place that we need new blood if we are to get promotion.

Re: Alfreton away! Come on lads
Was a dour performance, summed up by not one but two different Alfreton fans remarking that we must have played some really bad teams to be where we are.
Possibly true but certainly not helped by the change to formation and line up to what has been a winning formation. The diamond is shite, no width and encourages yet more long balls. Totally agree that the forwards are not looking right - JP is fine on his own but doesn't seem to link up well with a partner. That said - why take our leading goalscorer off? We seem to struggle every year with forwards so shouldn't surprise us at all. They score before they come to the club and score when they leave.
We have a great squad, funded very very well so why do we feel the need to change tactics and approach for a side that has struggled so much this season? Why does the team need confusing and shaking up to look like a bunch of strangers for 45mins? Why drop one of our best players in recent matches in Jack? Why is Sheils hair so damn fine?
Like to say a great welcome by their club and directors when we arrived had a nice chat with them in the bar and a lot of safe journeys etc on leaving from their fans.

Re: Alfreton away! Come on lads
Disappointing of course, but we were never going to go the whole season unbeaten. Need to make sure we don't slip up against Stalybridge tomorrow (3rd from bottom). We have only got 4 points out of 9 so in a bit of a mini slump I guess. Townfan is right, Fylde are surely going to win it. Finishing in the top five will not be easy: its hard to see Salford, Darlington, Kidderminster and Halifax missing out...makes us 6th!

Agreed Paul. Feel consolidating on last seasons performance will be a big result. What we must not do is go on a long aimless wandering spell.

Your easily pleased.
Its only constructive criticism. We are only concerned about the way the team played at Alfreton. If you were there you should not be happy at the way we played.

Re: Alfreton away! Come on lads
I look at it like this. 7 new players in that needed to gel , a new 3G surface to play on and 3 points off top 10 games in. I'm quite happy with that for a base to build on. Remember these lads are human , there will be inconsistent performances. Same points tally from next 10 games please.

Re: Alfreton away! Come on lads
Too many players went missing on Saturday. My frustration is we barely troubled a keeper whose team have conceded the most amount of goals this season. I'm just hoping we can turn that result around tonight.
On the plus side. I thought Knowles looked sharp when he came on and we only conceded one goal against a team who are up there in the scoring charts.

Re: Alfreton away! Come on lads
Yeah but not helped by changing the formation was it really? Hence we saw about as nothing a performance as you can get in the first half against a team who would have crumbled confidence wise at the back. Points dropped certainly and do not understand the return to a lack of width which sees the players respond with hopeless long balls. Let’s hope the much heralded Monday day time training and video analysis highlights this for them. The kind of contact time most clubs in this division would love.
Think regardless of whether you travelled down or not we are allowed an opinion on it, don’t you? Especially when the team is where it should be when we look at budgets – we are not a minnow in this division, we are not even mid table on budget terms, so given the calibre of players and what they are on vs the likes of FC United for example (paying £250 a week maximum) then I think it just we comment on a pitiful first half and barely improved second half. Think other folk are also right to note the division table and who we have played. Halifax and that great performance of resolve apart, we have played a lot of the lower table fodder.
Let’s hope for a return to width tonight.
