Nuneaton- life's good Empty Nuneaton- life's good

Post by Surplus Tue Aug 23, 2016 1:40 pm

Just relaxing in the back garden, perusing the online store and considering our start to the season. A kind lead in, excellent pt tally and good form shown against teams struggling to put points on the table, which will hopefully continue this Saturday.

Hopefully we are building towards match fitness and sharpness as the big boys are coming and pts now dictate places later in the season. Halifax will be a real test but with everyone on their game and the right tactics no reason why we can't ruin their bank holiday.

Got my lad at the PDC later, I'm on holiday so no night shifts, just need to work out which top to get!

The club seems great at so many things, but poor at advertising future matches. BPA had a smart looking fixture list in the shop. We still seem to have little presence in the town as well. Posters etc.

I've got some postcard style town cards with fixtures on the back and a couple of posters off Dan. I'm struggling to get out and about though due to a particularly heavy child infestation. I'll try and find you at the Nuneaton game to give you some Paul.

I don't understand why we haven't had any match day info re Nuneaton that we can share on social media (unless I've missed it)?

Is there a game on. Would never have guessed.

It has become apparent that the club no longer give a toss about the fans and it's all about getting more money in from corporate. The only people who seem to be bothered about the fans are the management team, players and owners. People like the communications manager has put us firmly at the bottom of the pile.

The fans used to be able to sponsor a player for £30. This has increased to £75 with an opportunity to 'advertise your business'.
The Club Shop is a disgrace. No one on Twitter or Facebook responds to questions. We haven't even released our new Away Kit.
Supports were not consulted about the no smoking. Do we still have a supporters club and was this raised.

There is now no fan involvement with the running of the club. The people who are there are solely trying to promote themselves on to bigger and better things. We get more updates on the Facebook group from the guy who does away travel than the club.

My suggestion - create a link between the fans and the club by having an individual who speaks regularly with the club and discusses changes which are happening which impact the fans.

I've been attempting to advertise the game on the Supporters Twitter account but unfortunately the reach isn't as big as the Official account. I can't believe the only time they've posted is 20 hours ago about the game! That's it..not good enough really..:/

I've also noticed that the Facebook account appears to be abandoned! Does anyone ever post on the Official page?!

Kind of hoped for better things when our new Head of Communications was appointed. Maybe the Corporate sounding job title tells you all you need to know. Certainly the £75 to sponsor a player is a bit of a disgrace. How many ordinary fans are going to be able to afford that?

Really solid competent performance today. Limited their chances to 2/3, lots of good build up play and dominated large swathes of the game. Positives have got to be the team performance and good interlinking, things to work on - to be able to maintain focus and control for longer and find other ways of playing in strikers but very good day at the office with hopefully no injuries.

Thought we did our usual and struggled 2nd half and let them into game. Crook was his usual this season looking very indecisive and looked at falt for their goal. MOM was correct for a change. Roll on Monday and we'll see if we are really in the correct position in the league. We've played nobody up near top of the league yet. Really hope we turn up for 90 mins on Monday.

Agreed garage and all stuff to work on. We do need to keep our foot on teams necks when we get ahead but tough to shut a team out completely. Still think Ben Parker is quietly getting with stuff and in general our defence look very solid. Not sure why Shiels went off and different lineup to match Nuneaton but got us 3 pts fairly easily so no complaints there. All about Halifax now!

Seems Parker could be out weeks...Hope I'm wrong but seems he as a bad ankle injury .....again .Plus with no recognised left back cover, we really are up **** creek.

The injury curse continues Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Hope you're wrong about Parker. Feel he has been an unsung hero at left back and reads the game very well. He also brings a wealth of experience and calmness to the back four.

Good game - win also made possible by some resolute defensive performances just before we got the third. Could have been oh so similar to Alty (how painful are these two points lost given how poor they are) and Avenue.
Good to see us making use of balls in from out wide.

On another note - felt damn sorry for the stewards yesterday. Put in a crap position by the knee jerk decision of a certain person at Town. Totally incoherent decision and rules.

Good people being put out to marshall a stupid and frankly ill considered decision by someone who didn't even have the balls to come over and explain the decision. All the while folk who are breaking the law by drinking alcohol out the front of the corporate area. Laughable. Do Town actually want their core support to stop backing them - where's our match day experience for LOYAL fans, not the imaginary families who aren't coming to the matches? Back to the old days in certain regards of a few things recently at the club, of which this is a good example.

    Possibly.

Extremely frustrating approach, when many folk have suggested otherwise about doing this. Very workable approaches could have been made to remedy the accepted reasons for the club thinking of it in the first place.

Take one of those vapour cigs to matches might solve your problem then the new pitch might be saved from being ruined by people throwing burning cigs onto it. Compromising a little helps.

Tis the way of things these days, soon you won't be able to smoke anywhere but your own house... One of the reasons I packed it in. Upside is now I have more beer money. Swings and roundabouts.

Well, beware, there are forces out there trying to reduce/nil alcohol intake. Anyway, assuming this is the right thread, I'm hoping today will show us as title contenders, but fear the worst!
Facts are we're 2nd, played well on occasions, indifferently on others, and the 6 sides we've played lie in the bottom 7 of the league table.
Big test today - draw/win or lose admirably and we're in contention. Anything else and I fear the worst. £1.29 with camra voucher for abbot ale in the Barum Top and I can deal with an honourable defeat, but would also be in ecstasy with a win or draw!

This is true, but they can take my booze only after they have prized it from my cold dead fingers. Very Happy

And yeah, today is a big test, Halifax will be out for blood after the loss to Fylde... today will probably give a truer indication than the table currently does.

I'd be happy with a draw.
