After Tuesday's tidy win against Boston we now go up against another team which will show us where we are at in terms performance. Looking for more of the same but with improvements around ball retention and also more composure around opponents 18yd where we work openings out to get shots off. Really buzzing for Saturday, need to get the advertising out to start getting that groundswell going. The long march for top spot has started..............

If we nail one thing this season, it needs to be consistently winning. If we can continue to improve on Tuesday's performance then we are in for an exciting season. SW has also got to fashion a team ethos so everyone is pulling in the same direction.

Seems odd that the National League and National South have a full programme of midweek matches but National North have only 8 out of 11.

By the sounds of it their fans are surprised at Young playing an 18 year old up front instead of a benched Reeves. Bet he starts against us tho!

Where to start! 1st point is I'd of settled for a draw before the game. 2nd point is we dropped 2pts today, both with bad luck through injuries and by not managing the game out. Thought MoM was correct as Thanoj sprayed the ball around looked composed all game. Crook played well for most of the match as well, Kerry put himself about and we kept the ball down and generally did OK.

Concerns obviously about 3 players who are injured and whether Turner will be fit to allow Burrell into mid, we were 2nd and 3rd to a lot of the balls, not close enough for knockdowns from the front striker and midfield was getting bypassed and swamped with overlaps to often. Knowles has also got to finish the best move I've seen. No excuses.

Not sure what the attendance was but it looked light so again need to consider why, but still a pt against quality opposition.

Not sure what happened for their 2nd but it did not look pretty and all came from the initial free kick where we should've protected the ball better.

In summing up, frustrating but a useful pt and good to get these guys out of the way.

Two points dropped. After their first twenty minute spell they faded and we came into it well but we just switched off after we went 2-1 up and let them back into it. Even with Leesley injured we should have shown more belief and battle to retain the three points, they were there for the taking against a poor side. You could see the equaliser coming and did nothing to stop it.

Injuries obviously had a play in it but just a nothing performance from us and them. Odd game, despite four goals neither team seems to be firing. Formation again is questionable. We have a great squad use it like for like on a 442, tho ironic that Alty also seemed to be going narrow - hence we saw a bit part performance from both teams. Just feel we are over complicating things with the diamond and needlessly so. Especially when Gazza doesn't seem fit or fast enough to play in the hole behind the two at present.

Certain players need to think a bit as well - injured player who is clearly not able to run - don't pass him the ball on counter attack. #thinkabit

THE SYSTEM WE ARE PLAYING IS NOT WORKING!!!!!
We are too narrow and they had far too much room in the midfield. We need wide men.We did have chances but we are needing too many touches before shooting. Our forwords are being starved of chances to score but our c/halves seem to be saving us. Too much big boot to our forwords again who are not real headers of the ball.No wonder the crowd was down. It needs sorting quickly.

Can't fault that carefree, sensible to put Leesley upfront to see out the game but just bypass him as he's never going to keep the ball and just runs the risk of really doing damage. Felt Thanoj was MoM but when he's that deep I'm not sure we make the most of him. Also there's no point winning a header if no one is there for the second ball as possession lost. Not getting it with Gazza. Was more involved today but just doesn't seem to have the bit between his teeth at all and was second to a lot of the play. Still a pt though but plenty of food for thought.

100% agree about 4-1-2-1-2 formation..no width. To play this system you need both full backs to be real up and down players.Parker and Burrell are quality players but IMO not attack minding enough. In Gazza I really think he takes far too long making a decision gets caught out on a regular basis.Emmett is worth a start all day long.Play anywhere with real pace and energy.
Draw a fair result but why do we seem to switch off defending a lead, well, well to deep inviting pressure..

Good points Bo. Regarding the pressure, can't understand why we didn't manage it better and get the ball further up the pitch but to be fair Leesley is a big outlet for us and is given the ball deep to create so with him injured we just seemed to struggle. Players were still passing to him even though he clearly couldn't do anything. Crook even long balled it to him. Still, with everything turning to s#*t we still got a point.

Personally i'm still trying to work out what Pittman brings to the party, he doesn't seem to be a striker or a winger so not quite sure what extra he brings, i know Clayton wasn't the most prolific striker but he always put a shift in.

Think we'll soon see as Chib and JP may well be leading the line if injuries are serious. Just hope we play a system that works to their respective strengths.

Interesting point about JPP. I'm starting to feel the same myself, but way too early to judge. He has a chance tonight to show why we signed him.

We should not forget, it seems to me, that last season was a bit of a freak season, and not likely to repeat itself. We signed a midfielder (Daniels) , maybe hoped he would get us 8 or 9 goals, in fact he got 23! Daniels, I suspect, will never do that again, and we will never have another similar player. Don't get me wrong, I think Leesley is better than Daniels, but he is not going to score 23 goals! We all know that without Daniels' goals we would have been just mid table last season, as our three main strikers failed in their primary job: putting the ball in the net.

What this means for this season is that at least one of our four strikers has to get 20 plus goals, and the other three 10 or so each. How likely is this?

    1) Pittman: looks a bit lightweight to me, can't see him being a 20 goal a season man
    2) Knowles: we all know the issue here, he often plays really well, but just can't put the ball in the net, Saturday a good example.
    3) Chib, as I have said, all being well, and if he plays enough, will get round about 10/12 goals season.
    4) Robertson: way too early to tell. Looked deadly in pre-season, but pre-season is pre-season. Lets hope for the best.

We don't really have any goal scoring midfielders. Two years ago it looked as though Gasciogne was going to become just that, lets hope it may still happen. We can't rely on Luke Shiels being our main goal scorer!

Incidentally, have you seen that Denton has 5 already (ouch!) for Halifax? Does anyone know if attempts were made to sign him, and, if not, why not?

Well lets hope we beat Trinity 5 -0 JPP scores a hat trick, Chib gets 2 and this post starts looking a bit foolish.

You're on the money Paul. For the strikers ( whoever they maybe) to flourish they need to play in a system that plays to their strengths and allows good service. Interesting to see the build up play that allows Denton to score 5 goals as he sure won't be dribbling it from his keepers arms!
