    Transfers.... Empty Transfers....

    Post by Chips97 Fri Jan 15, 2016 3:53 pm

There has been some transfer activity recently around the club..Including Bloomer dual reg, Gazza going out on loan, Burrell signing permanently and Nat Brown on loan.

Bloomer being dual registered with Cleethorpe can only be good for us as it'll keep him match sharp if we need him to come in and do a job if we sustain more injuries.

Gazza going out on loan is definitely the correct decision as this will hopefully get him some minutes on the pitch and get him back to match fit for us. If we get him back to how he was before it may inspire us towards the end of the season to get a goalscoring run going!

I think the Burrell signing is just a great replacement for Nyoni leaving and a breath of fresh air in the midfield, I'm sure he will have a lot of energy in there and be up for the challenge of a league higher! Good luck to the lad!

The Brown signing is obviously just cover for all the injuries at the back and hopefully a good experienced defender is what we need to stop leaking goals!! Unfortunately I have heard rumors of him being fairly slow, maybe this league is right for him though?!

    Thoughts... Question

All good - hadn't realised McGurk was out now as well. Looking forward to seeing Burrell again.
Just missing the two areas of the park we do need strengthening - up front and another goalie to push Crook.
Can't wait to see Gascoigne back where he belongs.

McGurk is quite injury prone. It was a similar story when he was at York.

Burrell and Brown. Pleased with these 2 signings. Good bit of business by Simon.

Hopefully Gazza will come back ready to fire us into the playoffs.

I think we do need a backup GK. What happened to the guy we signed from Garforth?

Stewart is our back up keeper. He plays for Railway.

    Is he dual-registered?

He played for us in the county cup game at Brighouse and was on the bench in our FA Cup game against Burscough so I would imagine he is!

Didn't know whether he was or not. But one thing that is obvious is the Crook needs someone to challenge him. He's a cracking keeper, make no doubt about that, but he needs to be pushed because I get the impression that because he's auto first choice he is a little complacent, hence the mistakes in recent games.

Outfield players have to face it, why not the keeper? Makes no sense.

I think the challenge of people fighting for positions makes or breaks a person really. It made Lloyd Kerry and broke Cecil Nyoni. In Crooks' case, he has no one challenging him for a first team spot. He needs the pressure of someone challenging him. If he gets that, he will go to the next level and get a full time deal at a league club. Look at Craig Mc. Crook will have pushed him hard and its took him to the next level. No reason why it can't happen with Crook.

The problem is getting a goalkeeper to sit on the bench every week waiting for an injury or a sending off. That is why Stewart is playing for Railway.

I do get your point, but I always believe we should have a GK on the bench always, even if it is just a younger, hungry lad who is champing at the bit. Not having one on the bench is a bit worrying from my perspective. What happens if Crook is injured or sent off during a game? And hypothetically speaking, what if it was a crucial fixture (playoffs in mind here) and it happened?

Totally agree with you Neil. We are not the only club who don't have a keeper on the bench, far from it. But that doesn't mean it's right.

If other teams choose to not have a GK on the bench, that's their choice, they know the risks; but when it comes to the team I support, it matters. I'd rather be safe than sorry and be able to cover all eventualities during a game as much as possible, and that means having a GK on the bench at all times. That's the way I see it personally.

But on the flipside, looking at your perspective; I do get the impression with Simon and how much he has improved as a manager this season that if it does come to the business end and we are in the playoffs or gunning for automatic promotion, then he will have a GK on the bench. But I'd rather he be doing it now.

In an ideal world I guess you would have two quality keepers and give them both game time throughout the season, but very unlikely to happen.
