Back out of the play off places!!

Post by GARAGE on Mon Dec 28, 2015 7:32 pm

What a farce!! Playing long ball tactics when we have a front 2 who have no chance of getting to the headers. Clayton should have played with those tactics. Does the management never learn.

    yesterday's table!

Wish I had brought my hosepipe when I came to fork the pitch.

The way we played in the second half when we scored two is the intensity we should have a lot more at home. I guess a lesson in been clinical today. I thought Chorley were poor, but goals matter.

Irving needs to kick their arses over our home form and then go out and get in two new forwards and a goalkeeper to challenge Crook.
Same old every home match. It is hampering folk coming through the turnstile and is inexcusable.
Our service to the forwards is starting to decline as well.
Crook after his penalty save needs to get a compass, he has been found out too many times with suspect positioning.
Today we were lacklustre and as you say Trevdee we had a brief spell of how we should be playing (simon has to ask them why we are not performing like that from word go). Should a club with the potential to go up be relying on a teenage loanee to get goals? Ain't a recipe for success and as long we carry on relying on and putting our unrewarded faith in our two main forwards we are midtable at best. I think the rest of the squad realises that too.
Cheers Trev for showing more effort this morning than most of that squad did in 90 minutes.

    Yeah and not scored.

And that is part of the issue. To make the team's ideal tactics work, we need a target man who is a real physical presence, has timing in his efforts to head the ball and can contribute to the teams goal scoring in more than just single figures for a season.

Really can understand fans frustrations about the striking department. Both Dom and Clayts goal ratio per game is very poor hence the loan signing of master Yates.I'm pretty sure SW will now if we are to push on, go out and bring in a proven goal scorer.Wont be cheap as most top strikers are on good and long contracts. Not rocket science but we are strong in every department bar one..

My point was with those tactics of pumping long high balls up front Claytons heading ability should have been used- do you really think the man of match was Yates?  My selection was easy it was Swain

Personally I think we played some decent football yesterday and we're unlucky not to be a couple ahead before they scored the first. We clearly couldn't cope with their height and aggression which cost us the goals. I see the strikers and goalkeeper been questioned a lot here but what about the defence? Surely they need to be questioned for conceding FOUR GOALS? The strikers bagged a goal each yesterday so what's all the questioning of them!

Let's be honest There was a lot of cheating by the Chorley players and there should have been a lot more bookings early on in the game to cancel it out...Poor refereeing again. Rolling Eyes

You could tell that we had only played a couple of days before and they hadn't as there was a few tired legs out there. Maybe resting a few players would have helped us. Crying or Very sad Maybe we shouldn't have got the game on Shocked

Anyway onto Saturday where we really need to get the 3 points to keep us up with the play-off places. Let's chant the lads to VICTORY!!!

Did I watch a different game?? People whinging about our forwards, they both scored!! Yes we should of scored more but as a general rule I'd say if u score 2 at home most games you'll win, if you let in 4 you'll win none!!!

We tried Clayton and Knowles up front and it didn't work Yates and Knowles looks a lot better partnership (for the time we have him) and yes Yates was my man of the match by a mile, quick good passing scored one assisted one could have had more with a bit of luck

Best post on here Chips so far.
I thought we played well in the first half hour without the end product but got hit with three goals that could have been defended better.  Maybe one of those days - before yesterdays game only two teams had conceded less than us.
When we pulled it back to 3-2 we looked like getting something out of the game before the OG which knocked the stuffing out of us somewhat.  Having played 2 days earlier it was noticable how we ran out of steam in the last 10/15 minutes.
Strange thing when a side only has 3 shots at goal in 90 minutes and score 4 !!
Your reference to the referee was interesting as well - did you notice, near the end, he pulled out a yellow card for one of their players for shirt pulling and then realised that he had already booked him and put it back in his pocket.

Has anybody noticed that, of the top 8 teams, only Solihull Moors have not lost a game over the Christmas period. Even they could have but for a last minute equaliser at Alfreton.

Tend to agree with chips and Townfan I think (altho' my feelings are mixed). We were poor in the first half (incidentally I thought their number 11 took his goals superbly), but I honestly believe we would have scored again without the OG disaster. I think the point about the strikers is more about the overall situation than yesterday alone. I do think Yates (if he stays) will score a few for us, and let us hope Knowles will kick off now he has one. I really like him but he needs another 12 goals at least in the second half, after all that is why we signed him. Thewlis (i.e Stockport!) can score wonderful goals. Lets hope Daniels' 'golden touch' has not deserted him, and a few from Colbeck/Emmett would be nice.

Anyone know how far Gascoigne is from being match fit?

From what I understood, Gazza is ready to go just needs minutes under his belt to get CN match fit. We will need him now with Nyoni doing a Houdini on us.

I thought we played well up until they sucker punched us and extremely well when we scored 2 and as mentioned, the freak OG went in and there was no coming back. They were a huge physical team and I thought they used it to their advantage. It is evident that McGurk paired with Ellis looked a tired partnership. I guess both are getting on, no doubt McGurk was on his injections to ease pain and we are missing Shiels more than I thought we would.

I think now that the pitches are cutting up and becoming heavy, teams like Chorley will come into their own. I just hope we widen our pitch come the start of next season because the wingers really do struggle to find space and that is probably why our away form is better.

At the half time break I thought we were well and truly out of it, even though it was a bit if a mystery as to how the score was as it was. However, after the great start in the second half, I was totally of the belief that we would get a draw at the very least, until the own goal . Then our belief was knocked, but I am glad to say, not our endeavour. As for the long ball tactic; as a football fan, I prefer to see it used only when absolutely necessary and I haven't witnessed its tremendous success rate when it has been used. Many of our players are quick, energetic and can play a bit too, so why give the decision as to what happens to the ball to Mother Nature, on top of pitting us more often against big strong defenders to win balls in the air?

The referee played a part in the first half disaster. He first denied us a free kick for obstruction on the edge of the penalty area and ignored an even more blatant obstruction on the touchline which led directly to Chorley gaining possession and opening the scoring. When Town committed a relatively minor obstruction he had no hesitation in awarding the free kick that led to the second goal.
