I don't care if that was only a friendly because that was an outstanding result against such a strong Leeds side! In the first half when we had our first team out we looked fantastic going forward. Daniels and Colbeck look like confident dribblers. Clayton was sensational upfront their defence just couldn't handle him at all. Crook made some fine saves and looked comfortable with everything thrown at him. Danny Ellis and Dave McGurk look like a good partnership, got to say McGurk was a class act controlling the game from the back.

Early signs and it's just a friendly but I was really impressed and it's got me very excited for the new season!

The new stand looks fantastic as well can really create an atmosphere, we have such a professional ground now and Irving deserves credit for getting this done for us.

    Up the Town!

What the ....? Just one posting after a magnificent evening, one of the best in my time supporting Town. And, by the way, nothing on the official site at all. Disgrace.

Chips is right, forget the 'friendly' term. We were magnificent, particularly in the first half. Only their keeper stopped us going in 2 or 3 nil up, against their first team squad for God's sake! Our new signings look great (love Ellis and Colback!), Thewlis has real skill, cut their defence apart once, Crook magnificent (we keep on producing great keepers) etc. etc. An incredible 45 minutes.

Second half we played basically our 'reserves', and, to be honest, I thought they would 3 or 4 goals. But the lads (some very young) really got stuck in and held out quite comfortably in the end.

Not to mention a full house, the new stand, a smart new programme (altho' some of the print needs to be more legible), one of the great evenings at the CNG.

Doubtless UW and others will say I'm getting over excited, but if you weren't excited after last night I suggest you find a new hobby!

Watch out Conference North...here we come.

    Fantastic night at the CNG
The new stand is a serious piece of work, superb effort from the construction company - the place was buzzing and the noise from the Town fans was incredible especially in the first half
40 years ago I was sweeping leaves off the Wetherby Road side on a Saturday morning and cutting back the brambles from the summer!
It was a total delight last night to walk into the new stand and the view from the back is fantastic
Overall the ground looks brilliant and the atmosphere was tremendous
Player wise - Ellis looks class, so too Crook (good idea to employ a specialist goalkeeping coach)
Thirwell also excellent, and Rob Worrall is absolutely class - hopefully we'll get a good year out of him before he goes to university.
Hopefully the raffle held by the supporters club will have raised a tidy sum to help fund the away travel

Yeah right now I feel proud to be a Harrogate fan..Everything has been said about the performance, stand and atmosphere, I can't really add any more but wow what a difference this pre-season to last. We have kept the bulk of the squad, and signing only a handful of players, means Simon can focus on the finer detail rather than working out who plays what, what formation to play etc etc and can only mean one thing - we should be in a strong position to get a good start. At last we seem to have a squad that wants to play for Harrogate and bust their guts out for everything, gone are the money grabbing journey men (except Speight).............We have some exceptional talent in that squad, I hope they remain below the radar as I feel there could be plenty of scouts hovering around!!

The keeper who played in the 2nd half is the Garforth keeper, he played against us in the county cup last season, looks a quality keeper to be fair from what I have seen so hopefully Simon signs him up. Think Pell is also a trialist.

Well what can i say? well a few things actually the pros of last night was the new stand i was very impressed the atmosphere was the best i have experienced at Wetherby road the banter between the Leeds and Town fans was friendly and in good humour (of what i saw) the football played by both teams was enjoyable to watch and i think it was a fair result in the end, i think Clayton played well holding the ball up in fact all the Town team played well but i think not having a 20-25 goal striker may well be our undoing if we want to get to the playoffs next season but judging from last night i think we have two of the best keepers in the National north league if we can keep them, the only downside last night was waiting nearly half an hour to get a drink felt sorry for the bar staff they worked really hard just not enough of them but i don't think we will have a crowed like that again unless we have a good cup run the other is the tannoy system i was very hard to hear in the new stand then i noticed the speakers on the floodlights where pointing down onto the roof can someone please turn them round to face the pitch and maybe a couple of speakers in the underside of the roof of the new stand would help. all in all a very good night i will be looking forward to playing a team more of our standard i think that might give us a more realistic view of how we will do next season but the signs are encouraging

Really interesting interview with Danny Ellis. I think he is going to be a crowd favourite at the CNG. Had a good start yesterday. Best of luck to him.

Thanks to everyone for their input.  As Harrogate is about 9000 miles away (as the crow flies) from here (Perth, WA), I monitor this forum to keep in touch with what's happening with my team - started going to Town games in the 1950's farao .

Thanks for the input, it does look a good season could be on the cards, though one game is not really suitable to judge the whole season, I however remain hopeful.

On another note (as mentioned earlier) the "Official" site has nothing about the game! in fact a little Kylie joke and a very bad one at that, makes me think the person responsible for looking after the website is quite immature. This really does need sorting out or the cyber profile of the the club will only deteriorate.

I cant really add anything else as the above reflects my views in 3 or 4 different posts.

But a level of realism remains for me. Yes, it was Leeds but it was a pre-season friendly. I now want to see the team build on this result and maintain the level of performance exactly like Friday night in the remainder of their pre-season fixtures. They have set the standard now, and it does look good.

I do maintain that if we can sign a prolific striker and a good back up for Crookie (Sub GK looked decent) then the playoffs is a realistic target.

I'm watching with interest to see how the team develops over the other pre-season fixtures, but based on Friday nights' game, it looks very promising indeed.
