    James Walshaw leaves

Post by Innocent Bystander on Tue May 05, 2015 4:39 pm

"Just to put the record straight. Harrogate's a club that will eventually go places. It has some top people there but unfortunately...........I didn't fit into the managers plans. I enjoyed meeting some top lads and have no regrets. The fans were great and I wish the club well."

And you too James, sorry we didn't give you a full chance to shine

Completely wasted him this season. A great talent who will probably score 20+ goals next season.

I'm embarrassed that we actually treated a player of his calibre, one of the most prolific non league strikers around the way we did.

At this moment in time, I am ashamed to be a fan of this club at this moment in time and absolutely disgusted with the pure incompetence of the management in this ridiculous, shocking and absurd lack of judgement.

I remember being thrilled when we signed him and seeing one of the best, proven strikers in the league in a Town shirt. Very sorry for him (and us) that it hasn't worked out. What a waste. He'll be back to prolific scoring for some other team next season. Thanks and good luck Wally.

Every player, manager, coach and owner in non league football are in all probability aware that the only reason he is still the manager is because his dad is the Chairman. If there was an impartial Chairman, he'd be long gone.

The problem is, we are stuck with a Chairman, who is a nepotist and oblivious to the fact that his son is not cut out for football management. A manager who has gone through over 200 players since he has been in charge, a manager who likes to piss daddy's hard earned money away on his playtoy.

The club off the pitch is excellent, and I do appreciate the Chairman for these efforts, but when it comes to on the pitch. It is a shambles and a disgrace.

These young players could really achieve something and the potential is there, especially Fallowfield, but not when they have an tactically inept manager in charge.

Let's see what the excuses are at the end of next season and how many players he goes through next season.

Simon Weaver, you are quickly becoming the laughing stock of non-league football. Sooner or later, you will run out of your pathetic list of excuses.

    Rant over.

Inevitable, I guess, but still very sad, further proof, I suppose, that our manager simply cannot get the best out of quality players, the list is now incredibly long. I had kind of hoped that with those 2 goals in the last 3 games we might see him again next season, but it was not to be. Watch him bang the goals in for some other lucky team (BPA , now with a new owner and bigger budget, perhaps) next season. I think we all like Clayton and Thewlis but 20 goals between them next season might be a stretch! Boy, oh boy, do we need Gascoigne to come back as good as he was before the injury.

    Sigh.

We have the best Chairman in non-league for everything but the fact he keeps the his son (arguably the most underachieving manager in non-league) employed.

Walshaw to go to BPA due with their new billionaire owner??

Tell me anyone who has invest the amount of money he has, both on and off the pitch?

The playing staff was the best in the league last season, any normal manager would have got us promoted.

Two new stands, a new bar/ facilities, a new pitch and the investment he has also attracted to the club. We are a much much much better team since he took over.

Go on tell me who is better?

In my opinion, he hasn't invested as much as some people think. The majority of the construction work (pitch, stands etc...) will have been heavily subsidised by grants, and the majority of internal bills....that could not be covered by grants, including the improvements to the facilities, will have been paid for by Strata as Harrogate Town is now a company under the Strata banner. The wages will probably have come as a Gift Aid declaration from Strata to HTFC as it avoids paying tax, so his actual personal financial outlay will not be that big. The reason the club is having to work so hard to bring investment in, is because it's not going to be successful on the pitch with the current management team in situ.

Fact is he didn't need to do any of those things (Bill didn't!), yet he has. I tend to agree with NZ on this, with one single blind spot I don't think you could ask for a better chairman/owner. If he did not have the millstone around his neck of Simon and we had the freedom to choose managers like every other team (and the ability to pay for the best), just think where we would be. He could (should?) communicate more with the fans via the programme etc.

Hard now to remember the feeling of excitement last summer: Walshaw, Kendall, Kerry, Barnes, Turner, McGurk etc. etc. Play offs an absolute minimum. Never really had an explanation, save the (usual) lame one about injuries (never happens to any other team, of course).

Just read Walshaw's text again, like his use of the word 'eventually'! I'm getting on guys, how long is long?

He is going to another team in the CN - I'm going for an obscure suggestion of Gainsborough.

If that is a correct assumption, then I think it will be one of the following:

FCUM, BPA or maybe even AFC Fylde.

But for some unknown reason, Salford City keeps nagging at me. They are paying big wages after all.

You don't need him to put his own personal wealth in though, you just need investment in the club. I don't think we would have got the same levels of investment without Weaver (and his business contacts) in charge.

Fully agree with that, he has bought in additional investment, and in all honesty is probably the best choice as Chairman for what he has bought to the club, my major problem is that because he has a millstone around his neck called Simon.

I honestly do think if he was to ask Simon to step aside, and bring someone else in with a bit of experience and knowhow, then we stand a good chance of going to the next level on the pitch. If Simon stays, nothing will be achieved.

You guys look at it all wrong. A club should run within its means. Thats how a good owner works look at Boston for example low wages good team
